Let's Dance! Animals (Art and Design)
Chimei Museum, Tainan, Taiwan
January 27 - August 31, 2016

Exhibiting for the first time in Asia, five of Kendra's sculptures are included in a museum show dedicated to exploring the relationship between materials and design in contemporary animal art. One of twenty five artists in the presentation, her trade mark, galvanised wire pieces are all loaned from private collections and showcase work made over the last thirteen years. A red stag, warthog, mandrill and two baboons make up the group.

I am inspired by the different rhythms and energies of animals, and through my sculptures, I set out to re-create something of the essence of an individual creature. I tend to avoid overly dramatised, clichéd portraits of animals preferring to depict quieter, naturalistic observations. Just the suggestion of an animal’s turned head or a flick of its tail can animate a piece enough to breathe life and spirit in the sculpture and to create a powerful presence.
